This is a reference sheet for the Common Taraki Garanjir.

Common Taraki are about 2 1/2 to 3 feet long, with females usually being the larger. Like all garanjir, they are technically reptiles, but are warm blooded, and other than the lack of mammary glands resemble mammals. They move on land by bounding, a lot like a squirrel. In the water they move their tails from side to side to propel themselves.

Their colors range from a dark brown, to a very light tan. Most of the time they will be bi-colored, usually with the darker color on top and the lighter on top. Occasionally you will see them with a single color, or the dark and light reversed. Even rarer is a melanistic(black) or albino(white) taraki seen, though it does happen.

As the water were they live is usually pretty cloudy, they rely mostly on their whiskers for underwater navigation.

Common Taraki live in freshwater lakes, ponds, and streams. Their homes are usually dug into the side of a water source. If it is not a moving water source, then they will have the entrance below the water level.
